Five teams remain in the running for the championship at the Ottawa Knights National Capital Elite 16U tournament.
Sadly for the hosts, however, neither the Knights 15U nor 16U teams will be playing on championship Sunday.
The 15U Knights ended off with their finest game of the tournament Saturday night, dropping a 2-0 decision to Lac St. Louis in one of the best-played games of the weekend. The Knights trailed only 1-0 for most of the game before Lac St. Louis scored the insurance run in the top of the 7th and then hung on for the win. The loss left the 15U Knights 0-3 for the tourney, but they left holding their heads high after a tremendous effort.
The 16U Knights fell 8-2 to the Montreal Titans in their third game on Saturday to end the event with a win, loss and tie and finish out of the running. Earlier Saturday, the 16U squad had shut out the Oakville A’s 4-0 on a one-hitter by pitcher Patrick Medeiros.
Today’s playoff games begin at 9 a.m., with the quarterfinal pitting the North Country Athletics of Watertown, N.Y., against the Montreal Titans.
The semi-finals go at noon, with top-seeded Hamilton Cardinals playing the winner of the quarter-final, and Lac St. Louis meeting the Georgetown Eagles. The championship game goes at 3 p.m.
All games today are at Kinsmen Fields in Kanata, on Terry Fox Dr. at the Kanata Recreation Complex.
Admission is free.
